Pit-Stop In Belgium

Au revoir France…. Bonjour Belgique!

Actually they don’t speak a ton of French in Leuven, mostly just Flemish so I was somewhat out of my depth. This trip wasn’t very planned out, originally I was just flying through Belgium on may way back to Vancouver Island. As fate would have it the plane I was catching had some mechanical issues and I “got stuck” overnight just outside of Leuven where my little sister was training before her international races (she runs the 800m sprint on the Canadian National team).

Leuven is beautiful! I had never paid any attention to this gem of a city until I was literally walking through it. The architecture is spectacular, and its not just the big old buildings… Everything is made with a eye for detail that is unmatched in other places I’ve visited! And I’m not kidding… the flagstones, the foutains, the shop fronts, the brick houses… it was all so beautiful!

I didn’t have much time there, and I only had the clothing I had been wearing when I left Annecy, France almost 10 hours earlier at 4am. So after a quick drop by my sister’s team hostel before she hit the track I stopped off at the H&M to pick up this really cute little outfit for a total of 23 Euros! Ideal!

I didn’t get much time to explore beyond Casey’s windowsill, the town square and my hotel near the airport before I flew out at 10am the next day, but Casey did give me a ride on the back of her bike for what must have been one of the fastest tours of leuven that has ever happened!

All in all, best layover I’ve ever had! And now, I can’t wait to go back!!

Don’t miss this gem,

love,

Molly
