The New Year Can Wait

If you haven’t felt the “click” of New Year’s yet, don’t worry – you’re not alone. This new moon offers us some space between the leaving behind of 2021 and the beginning of a new cycle.

Just wait… even just one more day. Dreamy, sensual rest is my favourite new moon ritual, and it’s never felt more important than now.

The new moon in Capricorn offers us an extra pause, and god damn, do we ever need it. The Dark Moon happened at 10:35 this morning, but I’ll be languishing in the beautiful New Moon energy until at least the 4th of January when we start to see the very first sliver of the waxing crescent moon – and I highly encourage you too as well.

We’ve let go of 2021. It’s gone, and we can pause before we directly enter the coming year’s goals, intentions, and eventual necessities. New Year’s resolutions, words of the year, first actions… as far as I’m concerned, they can all wait while we relish the freedom we’ve created within ourselves after what has likely been a lot of inner purging of the systemic norms we’ve carried with us: legacy burdens that tell us we need to do more or change who we are, core beliefs passed on from all over that say we aren’t worthy unless we’re being productive, advancing or serving others to our own detriment. It’s been a fuck load of work, and I, for one, am thoroughly enjoying my lunar break between the dumpster fire that was 2021 and the new beginnings of 2022.

Breathe.

You don’t have to step into your new year just yet.

Permit yourself to stay in the in-between,

The quiet space that is neither here nor there

A place without location that allows for deep rest

A moment without time that cultivates your vivid dreams

Sink into your imagination; all good plans start here.

Return to your deep wisdom and knowing

Of what you want, what you love, and above all, imagine how you want to feel.

Honouring the lunar phases of the earth and my body has changed my inner relationship in more ways than I can count. Somehow the synchronicities of where the new moons and full moons have fallen in the last year seem to exaggerate this wisdom – not just within the happenings of my own life, but in global shifts and cycles. We are not linear beings, and the more I honour the curve and rhythm of this incredibly feminine and subtle power, the more I trust that slowing down, listening, and turning to our own inner guidance is the answer to just about everything.

Tonight I’m sinking into my cup of tea, massaging my friend’s beautiful oil into my pregnant belly and enjoying the sensuality of candle-lit darkness before drifting off to dreamland.

This year the new year can wait for me.
And, it’ll wait for you as well.

This practice isn’t something I will be doing tonight alone; I do with every New Moon. Each lunar cycle houses precious gems: lessons that can only be learned through the quiet observance of oneself and the mighty power of all of creation. The new moon offers us a birthing place for a new life, vision, manifestation and the creative wellsprings of inspiration.

Starting on Monday, January 31st, I’ll be running the 3rd Live Round of my Creating on Purpose online course on Moon Magic & Manifestation. It weaves together the intricate relationship between the moon and menstruation and the power each one holds to guide our way.

Early-bird registration is open until January 15th with 15% off with the code CAPRICORN.
